About Me

“The only thing wackier than fiction is practicing law. And I’ve done both.”

FINDING HUMOR IN LIFE

A Sunny Start

Raised near the sugar-white sands of Florida’s Gulf Coast, Doug grew up fishing, boating, and dodging jellyfish — skills that, oddly enough, prepared him well for a career in law. He earned degrees from Seminole High, St. Pete Junior College, USF, and the University of Florida College of Law (Go Gators), eventually running a successful law firm and title company before trading real-life legal drama for the kind he could control on the page.

"Writing books pays less, but nobody sues me."

MULTI-LOCATION INSPIRATION

Flip Flops, Hiking Boots and Legal What-Ifs

Now splitting time between Florida’s beaches and North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains, Doug writes with one eye on the trout stream and the other on his next punchline. His books are fueled by real-life legal misadventures, oddball encounters, and the hilarity that often hides in the fine print. His debut novel blends razor-sharp legal insight with a lead character who, like Doug, knows that sometimes the best defense is a good laugh.

When he’s not writing, Doug consults, hikes, fishes, and shares his life with his wife and three dogs — all of whom have better manners than most opposing counsel.

Beyond the Pages

The attorney behind the pen

Everyone wants to know that little bit more about the person behind the characters.  So here’s what Doug was willing to “confess to.”
